What kind of headphones should I get for running?

I like to run long distances but the problem is that headphones always fall out of my ears.

I've tried earphones that clip around the ears and things of that sort but just because something hooks around your ears doesn't neccesarily mean they stay on. I have bought several different brands of headphones for my i-pod already.

Are there any runners out there who can suggest headphones that might be better? Thanks.

  1. I have the Bose in-ear headphones.

These headphones are perfect for running. They've stayed on whenever I go on long runs ( as long as you use the right size tips )...I'm a cross country runner.

On the bonus side, they do not block out outside noise. This is a good and bad thing...a really good thing to be able to hear oncoming traffic, but the music still comes in crisp and clear. The bad side...if you're not used to it...you'll think they suck because of it.

Personally, I like to be able to still be in tune with my surroundings instead of ending up in ER.

I use these at work as well actually and whenever I walk around...come to think of it...they never really come off my ears unless I go to bed. =P They're just that comfortable..you won't feel they're there.

Since they don't block outside noise...you can still hear incoming phone calls, hold a conversation and best of all...be in tune with your surroundings....and enjoy your music at the same time.

It's a Bose...which should say a lot in terms of quality
  2. I like the padded earphones that have a neck band that wrap above the ear and around the back of the head. Ear buds tend to fall out and even if they do stay in can get gunked up with sweat. Same thing with in ear headphones that go on top of or around the back of your head. Padded earphones that wrap around the top of your head make it tough to wear a sock hat in cold temps and for me seem to bounce around a little bit.

Good luck, I know how important those tunes are!
